Hike in Sports Quota Seats in Engg
Tamil Nadu Government decided to increase the sports quota from 100 to 500 seats in Engineering colleges in the state for the admission in to the engineering courses commencing in the session 2012-13.

Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa has ordered increase in sports quota seats during counselling for engineering courses admission to 500 from the existing 100 seats. Sportspersons who have participated and have won in international, national, state and district level sports events would be eligible for admission in these increased seats as per the government guidelines.

Anna University Officials said that, 1300 more candidates would be invited under this category for the counselling, which will be held on July 9 & 10.

It is also said that, this will not only encourage sportspersons, but also make more youth to sports and eventually increase the number of sportspersons in the state and help them in higher studies.

The TN government had recently enhanced the prizes money to the medal winners in Olympics, Asian, Commonwealth and National Games. The prize money has been doubled and they will get Rs. 2 Crore for Gold Medal winner, Rs. 1 Crore for Silver Medal winner and Rs. 50 Lakh for Bronze medal winner.

As for Asian and Commonwealth games they will get Rs. 50 lakh for Gold Medal winner, Rs. 30 lakh for Silver Medal winner and Rs. 20 Lakh for Bronze medal winner.
