IIT-JEE Format Finally Stay For The Yr 2013- Sibal

A Final Decision On IIT JEE: Sibal
Finally, after a long term discussion on the new IIT Entrance Test, came to an end saying that the Common Entrance Test shall stay just for the year 2013 only. The HRD Minister Kapil Sibal explains how the joint entrance exam has lead to the decline of school education and the reason for why the exam would stay for the year 2013.

'This is not my decision. This is a decision of the IIT Council, which is a sanctioned authority under the IIT Act. The IIT's have accepted this decision. The only opposition is raised from IIT-Kanpur. We do respect their opinion. The last thing the Council wants to do is to decrease the quality of the IIT system. We want to protect the excellence of IIT system. But nothing will be done to decrease their excellence", he said.

He further added, We feel the children think they have to sit for the IIT entrance and so they do not bother about their class 12 Board exam results. The standard of the school system is declining. This has lead to a excess of coaching institutions, which means it has become a urban centric.

Those parents who can afford with an admission in coaching centre can get their wards admitted into IIT's. So this has resulted in decreasing school system and pro-urban approach, to say- this caters to the rich and powerful....Well, when girls do the best in boards, they are the toppers, but there are no girls in IIT's. Because parents can't afford to send their young girls to Kota. So, some of the best students can't even complete because of these coaching centres.

In this country those children who sit for IIT's also appear for exams in other technical institutions and state institutes. The parents run to post filling up of forms and giving security deposits which they don't get bank. So, what we are doing is consistent with international standards.
