How To Convert CBSE Xth Grade To Marks?

Students after their results of CBSE class 10 declared, are eagerly waiting for their admissions in the PU colleges for their first year course. By opting for a PU college he/she gets to know the aggregate percentage scored in final board exam. According to a circular issued by the PU department a few months ago, a student seeking admission in a PU college will have to come up with Grade Point (GP), CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) and aggregate percentage.

The CGPA is then multiplied with 9.5, an appropriate multiplier set by CBSE for indicative marks. The founder Principal of National Public School says “CBSE has introduced a new system in order to put a check on the unhealthy competition. A child less than 15 years shouldn’t be a part of it. And some of the schools have already been found where they are going ahead and disclosing the marks”.

Admission process for class 11 i.e.. first PU has already started a few days before. The CBSE's new system which was introduced to minimize the cut-throat competition seems to be defeated. Yes, most of the schools have taken the entrance exam way of choosing the best candidates, where others are disclosing the actual marks to enable the entire process.

In such cases, while students with Cumulative Grade Point Average of 9 or above are in the first stage situation with preference provided to them, then those with less than 9 are left off with either disclosing their actual marks or excelling in entrance tests. For instance If a student has a CGPA of 9.4, then the indicative marks are 9.4*9.5, which equals to 89.3%.

Hence, the Director of Presidency Group of Institutions said “Neither are we disclosing marks nor are we asking students to come up within actual marks for admissions in our school. It is an instant admission for students with CGPA 10 and CGPA 9, which indicates that the child has scored more than 80%. But since we cannot estimate percentage for those with CGPA below 9, we conduct entrance tests for such students”.
