The sources revealed that an MBBS seat costs around Rs.30 lakh to 35 lakh while the price tag of postgraduate seat is between Rs.70 lakh to 1.5 crore in the state based on the desirable branch. Among the most sought-after courses are radiology, orthopedics, dermatology, psychiatry, obstetrics and gynecology.
According to an educational consultant, Arpit Pandya, “Parents have begun to search for seats as early from the minth of January, before the board examinations had begin. Though there is no scarcity of seats, colleges encourage this because they want all their seats to get filled.” If the hunt is for top best college, then MBBS seats will carry a price tag of Rs.35 lakh, and a seat in any of the subsequent colleges can range from Rs.25 to 30 lakh, said the sources.
Every year, there are thousands of students who apply for MBBS seats in six Government Medical Colleges. So, those students who do not secure admission through the entrance examination will either appear for the MP All India Dental and Medical Admission Test or resort to backdoor entry.
However, it is not like anyone can just walk in and secure a seat in a top college for a price. Another educational consultant Jayaprakash Gandhi said “When a stduent becomes a doctor, none ask his qualifications. But in the compact medical fraternity, news spreads quickly and sometimes even spoils the image. So colleges don't want to jeopardize the future of all stduents on campus for the sake of those who are willing to pay”.
