The UK based University of Oxford will now accept applications from students of CBSE and ISC students from the next upcoming year for admissions to Undergraduate courses. Till now only Indian students with SAT scores, A-Levels and International Baccalaureate qualifications were eligible to apply to Oxford and other universities of UK.
The announcement about change in policy was made by the vice chancellor of Oxford at an event in Kolkata on March 22, 2012 and a formal announcement was made during his speech at IIT Kharagpur.
He stated that India is growing at a fast pace both in terms of academic quality and economically and university would want to welcome the talented students of India. Generally, individual departments call students depending on their marks, but the university now declared that the class XII students of CBSE and ISC board would be required to secure 90% in each of the 5 subjects for ensuring admission in oxford. The admission requirements will be reviewed in every 3 years.
The students will also be required to appear for tests in specific subjects and personal interview. The intellectual capability of the students will be tested before providing them admissions to the university. There will not be any quota reserved for Indian students in undergraduate courses. Admissions will start from September 2013. The annual fee will be of 15000 pounds.
