The sources from Australia High Commission revealed that this year Australian Universities have registered an increase of about 30% in number of Indian students applications as compared to previous year 2011. The Australian Universities reported a major decline in the number of Indian nationals going to Australia for Higher Studies in the year 2010-11. There was a drop of about 40% in Indian Applications as compared to that in 2008-09.
The sources also said that there was an overall decline in the number of international applications due to the high value of dollar in Australia and overall economic conditions. The country has also now taken strict security measures to ensure the safety of international students. The patrolling duties and presence of police has been increased.
One of the major reason for large number of Indian students applying to Australian Universities are the new visa regulations which allows students to stay in Australia for 2-4 years post completion of the course and work there. As earlier the visa rules were made strict as large number of international students visited Australia with the motive of setting down by enrolling in some non skilled vocational courses such as hair cutting and cookery.
