DU and IIT's Follows Changes In Admission Process

Admission Process Changed In DU & IIT's
Delhi University (DU) has recently announced for changes in its admission criteria for Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and Bachelor of Medicine Courses. On Similar lines, changes in admission criteria have also been proposed.

Students will now have to focus more on their class XII Board Exams as it will carry weightage during Engineering admissions. Now the DU medical and dental colleges admission will be depending on the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) ranks.

Therefore students appearing in the AIPMT 2012 will be eligible to apply to DU colleges such as Maulana Azad Medical College, University College of Medical Sciences, Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Seciences and Lady Hardinge Medical College for Dentistry.

The Vice chancellor of DU feels the decision to scrap off the undergraduate entrance examination for BDS and MBBS at DU will save board students from taking up numerous entrance examinations. DU written a letter to the CBSE board regarding the same. The CBSE will conduct AIPMT initially with a preliminary round on April 1 followed by final round on May 13.

An other major development regarding admissions to IIT's and other engineering colleges in India is that now 40% weightage will be given to class XII Board exam scores for admission to engineering colleges including IIT's. It has been proposed by T.Ramasami Committee working towards introduction of a new single entrance test – Joint Entrance examination (JEE) from the next upcoming academic year, where admission to IIT's and Engineering colleges will now be based on the ranks in JEE along with a 40% weightage to class XII board exam scores.

The CBSE official has said that providing particular weightage to class XII scores to get admissions into engineering colleges will motivate students to attend their regular classes and perform wel in Board exams.

However, the decision has created a panic among class XII students who have been preparing for IIT since last 2 years as according to them the decision to change admission criteria in the last moment will affect their preparation.
