The CBSE- Central Board of Secondary Education has introduced a continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE) system for class X students which has made the class X board exams optional. The CCE system was introduced with an objective to enhance overall learning ability of the students instead of cramming textbooks just before their exams.

The Board conducted a survey in India to assess the performance of students who chose CCE over Class X Board examination. In the year 2010, almost a total number of 10,61,500 students appeared in class X board exams, out of which 6 lakh chose CCE. The CBSE conducted a study on class XI performance of these students in India.

The result confess that most of the CCE students have performed far better than the board examinees in most of the subjects in class XI. The study was performed in those schools were 50% of the students had chosen CCE instead of Board exams. Nearly 64% of the students preferred CCE over Board examination.

The study conducted has declared that the CCE students performed better in subjects such as Science and Commerce. Hence the board has given instructions on how to conduct CCE in schools but sources revealed that some teachers have doubt in comprehensive evaluation.
