Andhra Pradesh Board Of Secondary Education (APBSE), established in 1953, functions as an independent body under Andhra Pradesh's department of education and is responsible in promoting secondary education in the state. The primary function of the board is to conduct examinations for Class X and class XII standards at its recognized institutions by determining syllabus and setting question papers. Declaring of results and giving certificates to the successful candidates is considered as an important duty of the board.

The other functions of APBSE is to recognize aspiring schools and colleges and grant affiliations, prepare curriculum for high school and intermediate level, prescribe and publication of text books for courses, achieve academic excellence, issuing of admit cards etc. The board also focuses in framing policies and implementing them to meet the standards of the modern courses and provide quality education to the students. All measures are implemented by the board only after the approval of the department of education.

The Andhra Pradesh Board of Secondary Education carries out its functions from its head office located at Hyderabad and various regional offices. The board also tries to induct new courses and frame fresh curriculum from time to time to standardize the education system of the state.
