He claims that there is a major criterion variation in the 21st century. This is a period of knowledge, which is further facilitated by progress of information. The main incentive for prosperity in this knowledge period is education and not land or capital formation anymore. It is only education which is the present and will be the main reason for social-economic transformation of this century in the future. Education is an expenditure made in the human mind, which further contributes in increasing the productivity of land, generating capital and developing the Technology.
India has the youngest population in the world and through education one must invest in the minds of these youngsters, which further helps them cut all social divides and determine the course of the future. However, Sibal also suggested that this transformation will not come only with students enrolling in degree granting factories. This fundamental change will only come when the thinking of a student is not limited only to a classroom. The teachers must help a student develop and realize his potential in a classroom. Students require quality infrastructure, competent teachers, and innovative pedagogy and curriculum for them to innovate and explore.
The HRD Minister also states that the entire education system has transformed since the nature of learning has changed. This century already has examples of students who have influenced their education with minimum capital and nurtured their ideas for creating wealth.“Our nation and its youth cannot prosper in the absence of a functional education system that provides opportunities to discover, to explore and to conquer” – says Sibal.
