CAT-2011 is expected to be easy: Hyderabad Experts

CAT-2011 Expected To Be Easy This Year
On the eve of (Common Admission Test) CAT 2011 examination in Hyderabad, the experts have predicted that this year's exam would be easier compared to previous year exam. The IIM's (Indian Institute of Management) have come across a change in the exam pattern where the test is divided into two segments, each of 70 minutes containing 30 questions.

CAT, in the case of Questions, has not been throwing up lots of surprises till now, but this year faculty members at the coaching centers said that the sections with verbal and logical reasoning may have a different set of questions. Also, the count of students taking this exam has harshly come down when compared to last year. As per the record, last year over 10,000 students from this state (Hyderabad) appeared for CAT exam, which has reduced to 8000 this year. Indeed, the number of test centers in the state has also been cut down. As a result, CAT will not be conducted in three centers which include two centers of Hyderabad and one in Vizag .

The CAT Examination centers in Hyderabad are : Prometric Test Centre, Banjara Hills, and MLR College of Engineering, Dundigal. On the first day, the examination will be held in two shifts, from 10 am to 12.20pm and 3.15pm to 5.35pm. This year the tests will be held from October 22 to November 18. Regarding this, D.Naresh Reddy, director of Abhyaas coaching centre said, “The IIMs have indicated that work experience matters during admissions. So, graduates prefer to work for a while before appearing for CAT to have a better chance."

What can be the reason for the decrement in number of students taking CAT exam? Is it because of the high raise in IIM fee structure? Regarding this, an official at a coaching center expressed that “The fee structure of the top B-schools have gone up from Rs 7 lakh to Rs 13 lakh in the past”. Somehow the exams are still on the way. As the requirement of Business education increases automatically, candidates applying for the Business school may also increase.
