Counselling mandatory for II PU students
The students of Karnataka pre-university colleges will undergo compulsory career counselling from this academic year. The department of pre-university education is working out a plan to make the counselling mandatory for the PU colleges.

Many students take up orthodox professional courses like engineering, medicine or law just because it has a demand in job market. The prospects related to the professional courses become more important for students, but the students should chose a career based on his/her interest and ability, not on the demand it has or the interest of parents.

On this regard, The primary and secondary education minister Vishveshwar Hegde Kageri said, "It is necessary to introduce career counselling at the PU level, as many students remain confused on what to do after PU.They need to understand that there are lot many courses available other than some othodox career options which can become suitable alternatives for many."

Career counselling will be made compulsory at state government PU colleges from this year. It will be made mandatory at all colleges affiliated with the department from the next year. The colleges interested to implement the system can abide by the rule from this year itself. Career counselling will be conducted in the middle of the year. The Colleges can invite career counsellors or let subject experts from their own institutions to conduct the counselling.

There are a lot of career opportunities available for students in commerce and arts streams. This system may help in reviving interest of brilliant students to opt for such courses than engineering and medicine.
