By Kamalika Bhattacharya

A tag from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has been mandatory for all engineering colleges and now its turn for all medical colleges in Maharashtra to get a NAAC accredition. Maharashtra University of Health Science (MUHS) has asked all state medical colleges to obtain grade tag from NAAC. This will certainly help in improving the quality of education.

With this NAAC accredition, the medical colleges will see a tremendous improvement. In order to have a tag from NAAC the medical colleges would require to upgrade their campuses and facilities. The good gradation from NAAC can fetch them a better rank among other Colleges. However, gradation will be given for a five-year period.

Across Maharashtra, there are 311 medical colleges affiliated with MUHS, including private and government colleges. These colleges need to upgrade themselves as early as possible to fetch a tag from NAAC.

The medical colleges may soon display the grade they have been awarded by the NAAC on their board. This will reflect the efficiency of college. It will be compulsory for all the colleges to mention the grade in their brochures too. As per the gradation, student will choose their college.

A crew of three people will spend two days in the college to inspect and award grades to the medical colleges. The team will observe academic activities and research work, teaching strength, extra curricular activities. All these will be counted while awarding the grade to a medical college. The gradation will be awarded within three month by NAAC.
