DU to conduct CJET for Journalism aspirants

The Delhi University this year will be conducting centralized admissions for the BA (Honors) Journalism programme for the academic session 2011-12. This is the first time that the university is conducting a common entrance test for journalism. The test will be held on 19 June 2011 and will be conducted for journalism courses offered at all five colleges.

These colleges include Delhi College of Arts and Commerce, Kamala Nehru College, Kalindi College, Maharaja Agrasen College and Lady Shri Ram College. The forms for the Combined Journalism Entrance Test (C-JET) will be made available online from 20 May to 5 June 2011. The test in its first year will be conducted by Maharaja Agrasen College.

Every year, all journalism aspirants had to run about a lot to buy individual forms for all colleges and take five different entrance tests. This time, no college will admit an individual in the journalism programme on their own. Colleges have decided to allot a weightage of 50% to the score of the entrance test, 35% to marks in Class 12 and 15% to the personal interview that will be conducted. The results for the C-JET will be declared on 29 June 2011 and the interviews will most likely be conducted between 2 and 8 July, 2011.

General category candidates should have at least 70% marks in four subjects in Class 12 to be eligible for the test and at least 60% in English. For reserved categories, the minimum marks in four subject for eligibility are required to be 65%.However, the C-JET will be conducted across 10 colleges as DU is expecting nearly 5000 applications this year. The total number of seats that are available in all five colleges are only 181.

The pattern of the entrance test will have multiple choice questions with answers on an OMR sheet to test the general knowledge of students. Also, there will be essay-type questions to test writing skills through book and film reviews, critical analysis of contemporary media and commentary on contemporary issues. The duration of the test will be two hours and thirty minutes.
