18 from NIT Trichy claimed seats in IIMs

It has been observed that a large number of students getting admitted to prestigious B-schools of the country belong to National Institute of Technology, Tiruchy (NIT-T). And the number of such candidates are rising every year. This year, 18 students have secured admissions in Indian Institute of Management.

Out of them three have claimed seats in IIM-Ahmedabad, two each in IIM-Bangalore and IIM-Indore, five each in IIM-Calcutta and IIM-Kozhikode and one in IIM-Lucknow, besides a few on the waitlist.Last year, the number of successful students, including waitlisted one, was about 15. In the preceding years, the success rate was only in single digit.

The in-campus coaching facility has stood the students in good stead. Yet, not all successful candidates had enrolled for the coaching programmes. Almost all students who have secured IIM admissions had chosen to continue their studies even after being selected for good jobs by prestigious MNCs in campus interviews.

After school, students mainly think about pursuing careers in medicine and engineering. They get to know the higher career scope in management later on and start preparing for CAT. Engineering students with higher intelligent quotient enjoy an edge over others with their mathematical background. Unlike in developed countries where top-ranking business schools admit candidates with work experience, IIMs and other management institutions in India, barring a few, including the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, make admissions with undergraduate eligibility.
