The application forms for the Common Aptitude Test for English (CATE) will be available from 16 May for all its English honors aspirants this year. The forms will be available at 21 colleges of the university till 26 May, while CATE is scheduled to be conducted on 5 June 2011.
These 21 colleges will admit students on the basis of their CATE scores and Class XII marks with 70% and 30% weightage respectively. While Lady Shri Ram College for Women has finally consented to be a part of CATE, four other colleges- Kirori Mal College, Janaki Devi Mahavidyalaya, Rajdhani College and Vivekananda College has come on board this year. Nearly 1000 seats will be up for grabs in these twenty-one colleges.
The department started with 12 colleges in 2009, which increased to 17 last year and this year it will be the third edition of CATE in DU. As more and more colleges have understood the benefit of admitting students through CATE, which is why the number of participating colleges has been increasing steadily.
The department of English is also starting dedicated helplines for CATE aspirants this year. It will have five mobile numbers as helplines which will be functioning from 9 am to 5 pm every day and the numbers shall be put on the DU website by Wednesday.
