With admission season approaching for many colleges,Delhi University (DU) has geared up and have announced the new admission guidelines.

According to the new rules, the university will now announce cutoffs on the basis of past experience and this year's board examination results. Also, DU aspirants will get an extra day after the first cutoff list has been announced for admissions and submission of fees to the colleges.Unlike previous years, there would be five cutoff lists unlike the four previously.DU has further announced that the admission forms for the sports and extra-curricular activities category will be sold at the respective colleges from the date of announcement of the second cutoff list.

The university has decided to admit all students whose marks meet the cutoff lists, instead of on a first-come-first-serve-basis.The additional eligibility criteria for courses such as additional subject requirements and percentage deduction or relaxation will have to be submitted by colleges along with the justification by 9 May 2011. These will then be published in the university information bulletin.

The students who wish to migrate to another college of their choice after the declaration of a subsequent cutoff list will be allowed to do so and the college will immediately return their documents and refund their fees within 24 hours. The admission guidelines, however, have remain unchanged for the reserved categories of scheduled castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), persons with disabilities, children of war widows and Jammu and Kashmir migrants. Thus, the new admission guidelines announced is being considered as more student friendly and convenient.
