Comed-K aspirants utterly disappointed

By Kamalika Bhattacharya

The debate on Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (Comed-K) actions and decisions are continuing and disppointing the students to a great extent. The confusion created among students in this year's Comed-K counselling for post-graduate medical seats were basically due to flaws at three levels of the system.

The problem and confusion were regarding the original seat matrix system of 25% quota for managements, 33% for state government and 42% for Comed-K was revised. Secondly, the fee was not clearly mentioned and third, was the problem of seat blocking as some students held their seats despite confirming admissions elsewhere.

The counselling began on 12 April, 2011 and the seats were given to students from ranks 1 to 105. After protests by the students regarding the seat matrix system and blocking of seats, the counselling session was cancelled and rescheduled. Both parents and students are upset regarding the mess triggered during counselling and many believed that the authorities are taking students for a ride and harassing the students and their respective families.
