By Kamalika Bhattacharya

For seeking admission to English Honors course under Delhi University (DU), many colleges will participate in the Combined Aptitude Test for English (CATE).

This year four new colleges have joined the bandwagon in the CATE examination. They are
Janki Devi Memorial College, Vivekanand College, Rajdhani College and Kirori Mal College.
With this some 20 colleges will be participating in the CATE exam this year.Lady Sri Ram College, which had been a part of CATE last year, has now decided to opt out of the entrance test owing to a packed academic calendar.

The pattern of question paper for CATE was largely divided into two sections last year. One part had contained Multiple Choice Questions and the other had subjective questions. The section with the objective questions was assessed only after students had cleared the cut-off in the multiple choice answers section. However, some changes in the format of the CATE test this year is predicted. Discussing the format and content of the test is still going on.

Around 800 students will be seeking admission to the English Hons. program of the university across 20 colleges. The application process including the sale and submission of forms will begin on 18 May 2011 and the CATE test will be conducted on 12 June 2011.
