IGNOU plans to educate the underprivileged

By Kamalika Bhattacharya

By introducig a new programme called Ability development and Inclusive Programme, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is trying to make education accessible for the underprivileged.

With this programme IGNOU aims to reach those people who are less awared about the various courses available in the university in both distance and campus mode.IGNOU also plans to tie up with non-governmental organizations to spread the opportunities available in the University for the underprivileged.

The annual fee structure for various such courses is only Rs.1,700, which looks very affordable to many. This will inspire people to access the opportunity of pursuing higher education.

The university also plans to conduct monthly open house sessions to provide information to prospective students about various courses that are offered by the university and their course content.A problem that had been faced by many students pursuing various courses from the university was late declaration of results. However, the university had, this year, announced the results of around 3 lakh students within 45 days.
