It is the study of museums. It can be defined as the science of the administration and management of museums. This course is for those who are interested in history and culture. This course is closely related to Archaeology and those who are interested in study and collection of archaeological things can pursue this course.

Scope of Museology:

Museology is quite unknown to Indians and like other subjects of arts stream, it will not be considered a glamorous career. It is a multidisciplinary subject with a lot of scope. As India has a rich heritage which must be conserved, there is a lot of opportunity for students of Museology.

The major employment of students of Museology will come from museums run by the state and central governments. Almost all the museums provide internship for these students and permanent government jobs are also there. The jobs will include profiles like Museum Director, curator, archivist, conservation specialist, exhibit designer and educator.

Not only in India, but worldwide the museologists are in demand.

Who can take up this course?

Every institute has its own eligibility criteria. Broadly speaking any one with a background of history, Archaeology, Art, Indian History and Culture, Fine Arts and Sanskrit can take up this course.
