On 21st July 1964, Kamala Nehru College, New Delhi was also known as KNC was established in the memory of Kamala Nehru. It is a constituent college of the University of Delhi.
The college is affiliated with the University of Delhi, New Delhi and it was recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 21st July 1966 under Act, 1956. It was accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (CGPA Score 3.33 on a 4 Point Scale in the 1st cycle) on 5th November 2016.
Kamala Nehru College, which was established as a women's college by the name Government College for Women was in its earlier days located in Defence Colony, Delhi. The college was later shifted to Kranti Marg, New Delhi and renamed as Modern College for Women in 1966. The college was renamed as Kamala Nehru College, after Kamala Nehru, wife of Jawaharlal Nehru, in 1974.
The fees to be paid and the facilities to be provided to the students is decided by the government. The college has received many accolades at the national and state level in the field of education, sports, and extra-curricular activities. In 2017, India Today ranked it as the 28th best commerce college and the 16th best art college in the country.
KMC has entered into tie-ups with several universities in foreign countries for conducting exchange programmes. An International Languages School conducts certificate courses in Asian and European languages.
KMC has its own unique selection process for candidates who want to seek admission to this college. Students wanting to take admission to this college should fill in an online application form and register with the college. Before registering, these students should take into account their marks, either best of four or PCB or PCM, as specified by the college.
KMC also offers undergraduate courses spanning three years with various specializations, postgraduate courses spanning two years, diploma courses and add-on certificate courses in the fields of arts, commerce, and science under the University of Delhi, New Delhi.
Some of the postgraduate courses are conducted under the Credit and Semester System (CSS) and some of the undergraduate courses are conducted under the Choice Based Credit and Semester System (CBCSS) of the University of Delhi.
