3. Recovery Boot Loader for MIPS Board – ( Nov 2004 - Jan 2006)

Description

The Project is to develop a Recovery Boot Loader with Ethernet support for 1 MB flash devices from the standard one. The recovery Boot Loader involved Re-Design, Development and testing of the loader on different device Platforms and Hosts. It has built-in recovery mechanism which allows application image to be downloaded to the modem through ETH0 port. It consists of an EMAC driver and uses HCP protocol to communicate and configure with HCP.exe running on Host PC. This supports a single application and needs no recovery mechanism and also enables the application upgrades through the Boot Loader itself.

Languages C, Perl

Operating Systems Linux

Tools Magic Ice

Contribution

• Developed the recovery boot loader with of two major parts – loader1 and loader2.
• The functionality of Loader 1 is to start execution. It initializes hardware registers, downloads AP code to Eth1 AP and copies Loader2 to SDRAM.
• Once Loader 2 is in SDRAM, it checks kernel integrity by verifying the CRC for compressed kernel.

4. Created workspace for soekris and VOX boards

Description

This project has aimed at using an open source eCos in place of conventional RTOS / Linux for the Embedded Boards of Soekris/ Vox. In spite of its advantageous features like customization and tailor making capabilities of the Kernel, Linux OS has got the disadvantage of keeping the application dependent on the Operating System and requires a minimum set of system resources to function at a required level.

Languages C

Operating Systems Linux

Contribution

• Conducted literature research on eCos operating system
• Defined a procedure for developing a proper host environment for developing applications for eCos RTOS.
• Showed the benefits of choosing eCos RTOS as an embedded OS over traditional embedded operating systems.
• Compared eCos operating system’s functionality to traditional Real-Time operating systems.
• Porting the eCos HAL to the new target board. HAL porting includes platform porting, variant porting, architecture porting.
• Build and configured the host development environment and built the tool chain. Then configured and build the boot-loader and the installed it on the target board.

5. Created Flash driver for micron flash

Description

• The functionality of the Flash driver is
o To partition the flash
o Reading the contents of the flash.
o Writing to the Flash
o Erasing the flash

Languages C

Operating System Linux

Contribution

• Studied the datasheet of micron flash and implemented the IDE driver.

6. Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP)

Description

VRRP specifies an election Protocol that dynamically assigns responsibility for a Virtual router to one of the VRRP routers on a LAN. The VRRP router controlling the IP address (es) associated with a virtual router is called the master, and forwards packets sent to these IP addresses. The election process provides dynamic fail over in forwarding responsibility should the master become unavailable. This allows any of the virtual routers IP addresses on the LAN to be used as the default first hop router by end-hosts.

Languages C

Operating Systems Linux

Contribution

• Implemented the VRRP protocol as per the RFC 2338
• Application developed is a user space application.
• This application is later integrated into the end product.

7. IDS (Host-Based Intrusions Detection System)

Description:

This project is aimed at reporting a set of intrusions, which are logged. The Software developed examines each Receiving packets continuously with the existing anomaly database, if any match occurs with the present threats then the information regarding the threat is entered into the log file or if any new attack is discovered then the anomaly database is updated.

Contribution

• Manual testing of the IDS when integrated with the Firewall software of the Router for its reliability.

Languages C

Operating Systems Linux

Achievements

• Secured in EAMCET (1995) rank - 5234.
• Secured 7th Rank in B.Tech - College Level
